About

A Wan Chai practice focused on the evidence file behind every financial statement audit.

Why we exist

Financial statement audits stall when support for balances lives in inboxes, personal drives, and half-finished binders. Smartdatalinker was formed in Hong Kong to give engagement teams and finance departments a dedicated counterpart for that problem: organising, chasing, and indexing audit evidence so reviewers can work from a coherent file.

We sit beside the audit, not inside the opinion. Partners remain responsible for risk assessment and conclusions. Controllers remain responsible for the books. Our role is the evidence layer between them.

Origin

The practice grew out of repeated year-end recovery work across Wan Chai and Central — late confirmations, missing board minutes, and receivables folders that no longer matched the aged listing. After enough emergency rebuilds, we formalised a scoped engagement model with clear deliverables and handover dates.

How we work

  • Evidence first. We talk in lead schedules, tick marks, PBC items, and assertion coverage — not abstract “process improvement.”
  • Firm conventions respected. If your methodology dictates a referencing scheme, we follow it.
  • Local presence. Kickoffs and handovers can happen at Great Eagle Centre or at your office; document review continues remotely when that saves time.
  • Plain gap reporting. Residual missing items are listed with owners and dates, not buried in optimistic status decks.

People

Our coordinators come from audit support and financial reporting backgrounds. They are accustomed to Companies Ordinance reporting calendars, group consolidation packs, and the practical friction of obtaining bank letters and related-party confirmations in Hong Kong.

Relationship with clients

We prefer multi-cycle relationships — the same entities, the same folder logic, fewer surprises each March or December. First engagements usually begin with a single flagship entity so both sides learn the cadence before expanding to a group.
